A reimagining of the classic fairytale, for film and ensemble, fuses Jean Cocteau's 1946 film with a powerful score. Innovative composer Philip Glass removed the original soundtrack (including dialogue) and replaced it with an opera score to be performed live to the film. The unlikely love story of the dreamy beauty and the elegant beast unfolds in rare and unexpected ways as the chemistry between the early film and the modern sensibilities of Glass's score create an emotional landscape of humor, tragedy, and ultimately of redemption.
