27-Oct-24

2PM-4PM

Riverside Park
575 Riverside Rd, Roswell, GA 30075

Experience a dynamic program presented by native people about their history and culture.

Join us for a dynamic program and performance based on the cultures of Southeastern Native Americans. Learn about the history and culture of the Southeastern Indians through artifacts, demonstrations, drumming and dancing. Jim Sawgrass, who is of Creek Indian descent, dresses in historic-era native clothing typical of the Southeast. He demonstrates many tools, weapons and implements and teaches about the food, clothing, shelter, beliefs and cultural practices of the Southeastern Indians. Also come to understand how things changed over time from before the arrival of Europeans, to the era of trading, and then the arrival of settlers.

In addition to this material culture and history program, you will see and participate in dances performed by Southeastern native people in ceremonies and at powwows. These award-winning dancers explain the cultural meaning and traditions associated with their dances.
