Event Description:

Together in partnership with the American Theatre Organ Society, The Strand will screen the 1926 silent film classic The General on Sunday, April 13, 2024 at 3:00PM. With live accompaniment on The Strand's Mighty Allen Theatre Organ, seeing one of these classic films is a one-of-a-kind musical and visual experience.

Each film also features an organ pops pre-show concert beginning thirty minutes before showtime.

ABOUT THE GENERAL: "The General" (1926) is a silent comedy film set during the American Civil War, showcasing the comedic genius of Buster Keaton. It follows the story of Johnny Gray (played by Keaton), a Southern railroad engineer who is denied enlistment into the Confederate Army and is deemed a coward by his community and beloved girlfriend, Annabelle Lee. However, when Union spies steal his treasured locomotive, "The General", with Annabelle aboard, Johnny embarks on a daring quest to rescue both his love and his train. Throughout the film, Keaton's trademark physical comedy and stunt work are on full display, leading to a series of hilarious and thrilling sequences.
